Look at the following list of words. Then say aloud what color they are written in. For example, read: "Red, Green, Blue..." etc. It's harder than you think!
RED PURPLE BROWN YELLOW ORANGE
BLACK WHITE GREEN VIOLET GRAY
RED PURPLE BROWN YELLOW BLACK
BLACK YELLOW GREEN VIOLET GRAY
RED PURPLE BROWN WHITE BLACK

John Ridley Stroop first reported this effect in his Ph.D. thesis published in 1935, commonly known as "Stroop Effect".
